Photo Manipulations
The following are some examples of photo manuipulations that I have done for Christmas cards and promtional events.
Family Christmas Card for 2004
I used the same basic approach
as the Christmas card from 2001- combining various photos for a unified whole using a holiday theme. This time, I used vector shapes for each
bulb and clipped each photo layer to the appropriate bulb layer.
I used the Spherize filter to round the images so that they appeared to follow the curve of each bulb and added shadows and highlights. The pine needles are made
up of one image of pine needles overlaid many times. The ornament hanger
was lifted from a photo of an actual ornament.
Overall, I am very happy with the result. I was rushing pretty quickly to get this one done because I get dreadfully busy at Christmastime.
Family Christmas Card for 2003
The challenge for this year's card was to take three different photographs and make them appear in one unified image.
I decided that the easiest way to combine them visually was to put them in picture frames on grandmother’s table. I simulated the table, copied some picture frames on to their own layers, fit the images inside of the frames, and brought in a background which I made blurry so that it would appear to be at a different depth.
The family Christmas Card for 2001
I made each picture appear to to bend like they were wrapping around a spherical ornament. I also added highlight effects on each ornament. The ornaments themselves and their hangers I created simply by painting them in. The pine tree itself was actually a small snapshot of a pine branch which I duplicated several times and rotated, darkening in places to suggest shadows. Lastly, I added the glows from simulated Christmas lights and added reflections on each ornament, including reflections of the pine branches.
Soli Deo Gloria was the name of a worship concert held at my church. For the second concert, I created a photo montage to use in the marketing materials. The image was used in postcards, in the program, and for posters that were sold at the show.
The montage is made up of several photographs. The rain effect in the top image is simulated- I used a picture of myself standing (bone dry) in my basement and added the rain effects with Photoshop. It is also my hand which is holding the cup. I used scanned images, clipart, and my digital camera to provide the images. I relied on Photoshop to intertwine and mesh the images together. In order to keep down costs, the poster was made as a tritone image- it only uses three inks.
